How will the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan pay
my student bill?
Payments will be estimated for student-activated accounts prior to the
first day of class and at the beginning of each Fall and Spring session.
Adjustments may be made according to student benefits available, after
the 20th class day, when the state sends funding. An out-of-state tuition
waiver will be processed on accounts for Non-resident students with a
TGTP contract based on available contracted hours.
Can I request to remove TGTP from my account after
payment has been applied?
Student and guardians may request to remove their plan before the first due date of
any semester or before the semester begins. Payments may not be removed after school
has started.
What if I want to use the Texas Guaranteed Tuition
Plan for summer sessions?
Students must send an email request to Student Business Services prior to noon on the last business day before summer school starts.
The request should be sent to sbs@tamu.edu. Students that fail to notify SBS in time, of their intent to use TGTP for summer sessions,
will have to request benefits directly from TGTP. The request to use TGTP funds for the summer will cover all summer sessions the student
is enrolled for; amounts will not be prorated for each session
How do I use my Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan for study abroad?
Students participating on a Texas A&M faculty-led or reciprocal exchange program may request to use their
plan by contacting Student Business Services at sbs@tamu.edu.
For students studying abroad independently through a U.S. university or Texas A&M-affiliated foreign university/program provider, the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan can be applied toward the program costs. Students enrolling directly at a non-affiliated foreign university or program provider are not eligible. Because this tuition fund can only be paid directly to Texas universities and colleges, you should not pay the program provider directly aside from the initial application fee/deposit upon applying. Independent study abroad students must first complete the Independent Study for Credit form indicating that they wish to use their Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan. Once you have completed the Independent Study for Credit form and turned it into the Texas A&M Study Abroad Programs Office, you will be contacted with further instructions to provide an invoice from your independent study abroad program provider detailing the amount owed for the program. Texas A&M will then bill you directly from your TAMU student account the amount owed for this program. This will allow for your Texas Guaranteed Tuition plan monies to apply to your Texas A&M account, and you will be responsible for paying any difference owed once these monies are applied.
What does the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan pay for?
The Texas Guaranteed Tuition Fund will pay for the number of tuition hours that have been
purchased under the students contract. Students will be responsible for paying additional tuition
hours to the university not covered by their plan. Mandatory fees that all students are required to pay for
enrollment are covered for a limited amount of semesters (please contact the Texas Guaranteed
Tuition Fund additional information). The Texas Guaranteed Tuition Fund does not cover
laboratory fees, course specific fees, room, board, books, aggie bucks, sport passes,
enhancements fees, field trip fees, study abroad trip fees, options, etc.
Can I use the hour benefits from my Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan without having to use my fee term benefit?
Texas A&M University will bill the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan for ALL
benefits available. It is the student's responsibility to notify Student
Business Services when hours and fee terms are running out of their plan.
Failure to notify Student Business Services may result in an unexpected
balance due to the student account. This is also referred to as charge
back due to an insufficient TGTP benefit(s). When a student's hours or fee
benefits become insufficient the plan will no longer apply to the student account
automatically for the fall/spring semesters. Student's will need to contact Student
Business Services before the first day of classes to request to use any balance of
benefits in the event this occurs. Students that fail to notify Student Business Services
before classes begin of their intent to use their plan, may result in the inability to use
their plan that semester.
How do I contact the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan to verify my hours (benefits) or get more information about my plan?
The Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan Office can be contacted through the State
Comptroller's office at 1-800-531-5441.
This information is also available on the back of the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan ID card.
How can I use my Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (TGTP) benefits when I also have a Hazlewood Exemption?
The purchaser of the TGTP contract can contact the Texas Tomorrow Fund office in Austin to request to be reimbursed for benefits for any
semester the student is using the Hazlewood exemption. It would be more beneficial for customers to request reimbursements directly from
the state since the university would have a minimal amount to report back to the state as due on behalf of the student. The amount reported
back to the state would be minimal since the Hazlewood exempts tuition and required fees to eligible students with the exception of the
student services fees and certain distance education fees. Customers would be able to receive funds back from the state more timely than
from the university. Texas A&M University will not be requesting reimbursement for TGTP customers using the Hazlewood exemption.
What happens if I do not use all of my Texas Guaranteed Tuition plan hours (benefits)? Can I use them for graduate school? Could I get a refund, etc?
Students may use their plan toward graduate school at TAMU. The plan will pay
the undergraduate state average for the type of plan purchased. Students will
be responsible for amounts billed over the state average. Contact the Texas
Guaranteed Tuition Plan for more information on unused plan hours and benefits.
How will the new flat rate affect my Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan?
The Texas Guaranteed Tuition plan will continue to cover tuition and fee
charges according to the student plan and benefits available. The University
will continue to estimate those payments according to the hours the student
is registered for.
How can I use my Valedictorian exemption and still use the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (TGTP)?
According TGTP the student is entitled to receive both. The valedictorian exemption has a
higher priority in our student system and will credit or pay the student account first.
TGTP must be manually billed after the 20th class day for the benefits covered in the student
plan (for a maximum of hours the student is enrolled for the term) so the student can receive
full credit for the tuition. TGTP usually submits payment for benefits four to six weeks
after an invoice has been submitted. When TGTP submits payment to the university, the student
will receive full credit for the TGTP benefits. If the student account is paid in full, a
refund will be issued to the student equivalent to the value of the valedictorian exemption,
if the student has enough TGTP benefits to cover the enrolled hours for the term.
How can I use my Early High School Scholarship and still use the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (TGTP)?
The TGTP will be applied for the cost tuition and required fees covered by the TGTP plan. The Early High School Scholarship will then be applied toward the enhancement fees, course specific fees, and lab fees that the TGTP does not cover. Scholarship recipients with TGTP will not receive full credit for their scholarship at the beginning of the term. Credit will be issued to students’ after funds are received by the university from the Texas Educational Coordinating Board that is equivalent to the awarded scholarship amount that would have covered tuition and required fees for the term. This usually takes place around the end of November for the fall term and end of April for the spring. This credit will be applied toward the student account balance for the term and any excess will be refundable to the student.
How can I use my ROTC Scholarship and still use the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (TGTP)?
The TGTP will be applied for the cost tuition and required fees covered by the TGTP plan. The ROTC Scholarship will then be applied toward the enhancement fees, course specific fees, and lab fees that the TGTP does not cover. Scholarship recipients with TGTP will not receive full credit for their scholarship at the beginning of the term. Credit will be issued to students’ after funds are received by the university from The ROTC that is equivalent to the awarded scholarship amount that would have covered tuition and required fees for the term. This usually takes place around the end of December for the fall term and end of May for the spring. This credit will be applied toward the student account balance for the term and any excess will be refundable to the student.
