Graduating Student FAQ's

Addresses

Let's face it, you have been keeping us up to date on your address for four years or more, and you thought that was finally over. However, if you are in repayment on a loan or other balances owed the University, it is important that you continue to keep us advised of your address. Otherwise, billing statements may be misrouted and that can result in late penalties.

To update your student account address or phone, use the My Record Tab in Howdy or call or write us.

If you are in repayment of a loan owed to the University, please send your new address to loans@tamu.edu or log onto My Aggie Loans.

Avoid Future Problems Before Leaving The University

Before you go, check your student account using My Record Tab in Howdy, or call Student Business Services at (979) 847-3337 to make sure you do not owe a balance. If you do, your records are automatically blocked and you will not be able to receive a transcript of your official records.

If you wait until you need a transcript, it could mean a delay in receiving it until your balances are paid.

Property Deposit Refunds

You may not know it, but you have a property deposit on file with the University that you were required by the state to pay when you first entered A&M. If you are leaving the University, and do not plan to return for more undergraduate or graduate work, you can request a refund. (GSC, Suite 2801)

If you like, you can leave the deposit on file in case you return to A&M for additional studies. It will remain there and available to you upon request for four years. After four years, it will be automatically placed in the "Student Deposit Scholarship Fund". This is a great idea and is what many students choose to do. The fund has provided scholarships to hundreds of students since its inception. Remember, once the deposit is transferred to the scholarship fund, you may no longer request a refund.

Students can also choose to donate their Property Deposit to the scholarship fund when they leave the University. (ask how in the GSC, Suite 2801)

Using Howdy to clear blocks

BLOCKS DON'T JUST GO AWAY!

Before  your registration time slot arrives, make sure you are not prevented from registering because of a block on your records. Use Howdy below to check for blocks and give yourself plenty of time to clear them.

If you wait until the last minute to clear a block, you may find yourself behind others who used Howdy to make sure their student account was clear of blocks. It could mean that you will miss your time slot and have to register after everyone else has had their pick of classes. Clear blocks well before your registration time slot to ensure that you don't run into last minute problems.

  • Use Howdy to check on your block status.

Texas Residency Requirements
